The Director-General of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation has “refuted the false statement” that its presidential candidate had entered into a “deal” with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
There were rumours flying on social media that Mr Obi had agreed to step down for Atiku, and old pictures of the duo together were used to represent a recent meeting.
In 2019, Atiku selected Obi as his vice candidate.
The DG of Obi’s campaign, Dr Doyin Okupe said he wondered why such speculation was even contemplable when his principal enjoyed “massive acceptance and support of the Nigeria people; home and abroad”.
Doyin said his candidate was “far ahead of all other candidates” and it was illogical that he could be negotiating with “less popular candidates”.
Doyin’s statement appeared however to exonerate the PDP Atiku’s campaign leaving suspicions pointing in the direction of the ruling All Progressives Congress and its Bola Tinubu campaign.
Dr Doyin advised Nigerians to “ignore this cheap, self-serving and distracting propaganda” from the opponent’s camps and join “the train of the OBIdient movement” on its focused mission to “take back Nigeria and hand it over to the Nigerian youths, to secure their collective destiny”, and jettison the old legacy parties that are diminishing and drying like “lake in the scorching heat of an arid desert”.
Peter Obi is still on his diaspora engagements to Europe and the Americas and is expected back in Nigeria this weekend.
