Zain Asher Peoples (Nee Ejiofor) – born 27 August 1983 – is a Nigerian British news anchor at CNN International who is based in New York City.
She anchors CNN Newsroom weekdays at 2:30pm ET on CNN International. Previously, Asher co-anchored CNN Newsroom at 1am ET on CNN America. In 2013, Asher joined CNN as a business correspondent based in New York City. In addition to financial reporting for CNN, she also had a monthly column in Money Magazine.
She was born in Balham, London Borough of Wandsworth, England, to Nigerian parents Arinze – the father, a doctor, and Obiajulu Ejiofor – the mother, a pharmacist. She is the younger sister of actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, the famous British director, writer and actor; and a younger sister, Kandibe, who is medical doctor.
Zain is from Ezeagu in Enugu State, Nigeria. She speaks fluent English and a reasonable Igbo.
Asher graduated from Keble College, Oxford University in 2005 with a degree in French and Spanish and subsequently from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in New York City in 2006. Her father died in a road accident 1988.
Asher’s prime interest till date has been finance news and general news reporting and coverage. She has scaled the heights in the field of journalism at the CNN headquarters through a consistent journey. Prior to joining CNN in the year 2013, Zain worked with a handful of magazines and local channels in Mexico, Nigeria and France including stints with MONEY Magazine and News 12 as a reporter telling stories from Brooklyn, the Bronx and Connecticut.
Asher’s most remarkable works include a coverage from Nigeria in the year 2014 which was about the hardcore and ruthless kidnapping of a number of schoolgirls from Chibok by the Nigeria terrorist group, Boko Haram. She also anchored various breaking news such as stories from the Greece debt crisis, the terror attacks at Charlie Hebdo newspaper in Paris, the terror attack at the Boston Marathon and the devastating earthquake of Nepal in the year 2015 among many others.
Little is known about Zain Asher’s personal life which she guards jealously, but she popped into the gossip space when in 2016 she got engaged to her long time mysterious boyfriend Steve Peoples.
Zain and hubby, Steve, tied the knot in a private ceremony in 2017 which had the broadcaster’s siblings Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kandibe in attendance.
The popular Nigerian-British broadcaster Zain Asher is going to be a mom soon! In August 2018, she confirmed that she and her husband are expecting a baby. The CNN anchor shared a photo of a nursery with a caption “Baby’s room is finally ready! I’m bursting with excitement. Not long now until our prince is here.”
So, here is one thing; we know its a baby boy.
